Happy New Year!

Well, hello! I'm so glad you could stop by to see me on this first day of the new year, 2010!

I do hope that however you spent it, you all had a safe and wonderful New Year's Eve! I'm happy to say that I had a really GREAT New Year's Eve!

During the day, I was a little worried about the weather here. The snow was falling, but it only accumulated an inch.. maybe two, at the most. While there was still a need for caution on the somewhat slippery roads, the kids and I still went out to dinner with friends, and had such a nice time!

Next, we went over to my brother and sister-in-law's house, to count down the final minutes left of 2009, then to toast 2010 together! We watched a movie, played some Guitar Hero, talked and laughed.. I was so happy for fun we had there too!

The ride home was a safe one. In fact, I was rather surprised how quiet the roads were, but I guess that's a very good thing! People are taking better care not to drink and drive!.. Arriving back home again, and calling it a wonderful night to remember, I am reminded of how thankful I am to God for how very blessed I am.

I'm not sure how we'll be spending New Years Day, just yet.. Having dressed up just a bit for last night, I may just spend a quiet day at home, in my jeans, sweatshirt, and slippers! I picked up a brand new skein of yarn, and I'm FINALLY bringing out my crochet hook! I'm going to start this new year by making a new hat to match the new pocketbook I got for Christmas!.. And hopefully, I'll be able to snap a nice, clear photo, to show you when it's done!

Best Wishes, with all my heart, to everyone for good health, wealth, love, happiness, and all God's blessings in the new year ahead! May your regrets be few, and all your dreams come true!...

((Hugs))

How Was Your Christmas?

Did you hear the bells
on Christmas Eve,
from Santa's sleigh?
Did you believe?

Did you hang your stocking,
for when he'd stop by?
As the clock was tick-tocking,
did eight reindeer fly?

Did you leave out cookies,
or some kind of snacks,
So Santa could sit for a spell
and relax?

Did you then settle in
for your Christmas Eve nap?
Were you then paid a visit
by that jolly ol' chap?

Did you wake up to find
your gifts, many or few,
Did you feel like a kid,
a younger, spirited you?

Did you then remember,
a young babe who was born,
a long time ago,
on the first Christmas morn?

He was God's gift to us,
from Heaven above.
Do you share that spirit
of giving and love?

Santa remembers,
then just plays a part,
to spread love and joy
to all kids at heart.

May you hear the bells,
on every Christmas Eve.
May joy fill your hearts,
if you just believe!

Best Beansie Wishes,
to you and your kin...
May God bless you all
as the New Year rings in!

Pics to See, and a Recipe!

O.k. now, first I want to thank everybody for welcoming me back! I loved hearing from all of you, so much more than you know! Thank you! I'm definitely feeling that Christmas spirit!... and honestly, I'm trying my best to KEEP that spirit as I attempt to learn how to use my new camera! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ho! Ho! Ho!

I really do love it, but I'm afraid it took me some time.. TWO DAYS in fact, to LOCATE an owner's manual, ON LINE!.. Now, please tell me.. Is my blonde showing, or is it my age? Why does my NEW camera not come with INSTRUCTIONS?!

Having finally found them, it will STILL take me some time to read, understand, use, AND remember all the features and capabilities that come with my camera. I must say, I certainly did appreciate the info they gave me for maintenance of my camera!.. and I quote, "The digital camera is a delicate device. Please handle your camera with care to avoid damaging it." Period. That was it. Well now! I feel so much better knowing THAT! My camera should last another ten YEARS now!.. Thank Heaven I didn't skip over THAT vital dose of information!.. I mean, my gosh, when I THINK of what COULD have HAPPENED!.. Why, I just "SHUTTER" to think!!

(Sigh) So, anyways.. Do you like this photo?.. No, I didn't take THIS picture.. It just looks like these little guys have a far better understanding of their camera, than I do right now!.. I'm afraid my first set of test shots were not at all worthy of sharing! ALL of them were blurry! I am trying to feel out when to use the flash or not, and when to zoom in or out or not. The lighting is different in this house than it was at the old place. I also need to set up and learn to use whatever editing program I'm going to use too, so all in good time I guess.

My second set of photos look a little better, so I thought I'd share them today, along with a little peek at a few of the Christmas decorations in my kitchen, and then a recipe!

Well, most of you may know I love and collect anything "Peanuts". I love setting up my growing collection of Peanuts Christmas decorations every year! It just seemed right, at this time when I'm spending so much time in my kitchen, baking up batches of homemade cookies, to share a few pictures of some of my favorites. First up is my Peanuts Christmas Tree! It is the smallest of the three trees I have happily still managed to display in my new home! It stands only about 30" tall.. Actually, 33" with Snoopy placed up at the top! I love it! The lights are very pretty, but didn't show up well at all in this snapshot. (Oh.. and look a little closer. I still need to learn how to set the DATE! ha! ha!)

The following two photos are of the Peanuts stockings I made.. oh at least 4 or 5 years ago, I guess. Here you see them hanging on my kitchen hutch!

See my little rooster peeking from behind my stocking?! Does anyone remember him from when Barb, at Bella Vista, hosted the big "Show Us Your Roosters Party"?

Well, next up is a small sample of a batch of cookies I made yesterday! I never realized how many different recipes are out there for "Santa's Whiskers", but I nearly fell asleep on my computer last night, trying to look them all up! I gave up after a while, and just figured I'll show you how I did mine this year.

One thing's for sure.. Dear Son often likes to help, and he often likes to lick the bowl, but he doesn't reach for a cookie as quickly as I do, once they are baked and stored in their proper place! After making these, he ate at least 2 or 3, so that's about the highest form of flattery I can ask of him! I was so happy he liked them!.. and ooooooh, the kitchen smelled so-ooooo good!

If you would like to try MY recipe for how to make them, here it is...

Santa's Whiskers
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the following ingredients..

3/4 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup crisco
1 egg
3/4 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 and 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup flaked coconut (and some extra to roll and chill the dough)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/3 cup chopped and drained maraschino cherries, stems removed
Anywhere from 15 to 25 maraschino cherries, cut into desired sized pieces (halves or quarters) to place at cookie centers.
Vanilla frosting, either homemade or store-bought will do.

Once dough is mixed, sprinkle wax paper with coconut, and roll dough over the coconut, forming a log. Wrap wax paper closed, then refrigerate dough for at least 2 hours.

Take log out of refrigerator, remove wax paper. Slice and bake on lightly greased cookie sheets for approximately 10 minutes, being careful not to let cookies get too browned. Remove from sheets to cooling racks. When cooled, frost your cookies. I didn't, but you could, if you like, sprinkle the frosting with more coconut. Then, however you sliced the remaining cherries (either in halves, or in quarters), promptly place a cherry in the center. From here, I like to chill these to set, in my refrigerator, then I proceed to store them in my freezer for Christmas. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays! ~Beansie

Catching Up And MOOO-ving Along!

The closer Moving Day gets, the more nervous and worried I feel about being organized and ready for it. Nobody could say I'm not working as hard as I can to get everything done, but organization was never my specialty! I make every effort to TRY to be, and I'd LIKE to think I'm improving, but I'm not exactly following a checklist, like I'm sure I SHOULD be! To be honest, I'm more like the chicken running around with her head cut off right now! Well, for getting so much done as I did today, whether it was in an orderly fashion or not, I felt I deserved at least a little computer time tonight, to catch up a bit before I head to bed for the night! So without any further ado, let's get this post MOOOOO-ving, shall we?!

I was so happy to receive a couple of awards during the past week! This first award was given to me by Gracie, whom I love to visit at both her blogs.. A Touch of Grace, and Grace Is In My Kitchen.

If I remember correctly, I first met Grace through Pink Saturdays, and it has been a pleasure visiting and getting to know her ever since! Now, as a rule, I must pass this "One Lovely Blog Award" on to new blogs I have recently discovered. They are as follows...

I received a second award from Sally, at Suburban Hooker! Sally is one of the first friends I met here in Blogland, and I made one of most favorite winter hats using a crochet pattern she designed! Here she has presented to me the "Gorgeous Blogger Award"!

Upon acceptance of this award, I must tell six things about myself that you don't know. Having done this, I am to pass this award on to six other gorgeous bloggers! So.. Here goes...

1. I hate peppers, onions, and cabbage; but I LOVE peas, spinach, lima beans, and sauerkraut! Weird, huh?!.. I can just see your faces now!

2. I have traveled by motorcycle, car, boat, and by plane, but I have never been on a train yet.

3. My favorite computer games are Scrabble, Solitaire, and Yahtzee! In fact, I love Yahtzee so much, I carry this hand-held electronic game in my purse AT ALL TIMES! I have had it for years, and love it when I get stuck in waiting rooms, or in the car for some reason or other. Mine is actually starting to show some wear and tear. I may have to ask Santa for a new one!

4. As a little girl, the first thing I remember wanting to do "when I grow up" was to have my own dolly hospital. There was a real "doll hospital" where I lived, and I remember my grandmother "admitting" her dolls there, for some special attention and repairs. I remember how beautiful they looked, and I guess this is where I found my inspiration!.. I also remember wanting to run my very own library, and how all the books there would be written by ME!

5. I can't sleep unless I hear the t.v. on.. What's funny though, is that unlike most people, I can drink 20 cups of coffee, and I can still fall asleep as soon as my head hits that pillow!.. Well, as long as the t.v. is on!!

6. My favorite Trick Or Treat candies are Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Baby Ruth bars, and Snickers!

Oh!.. and Junior Mints, and Raisinettes, and Hershey chocolate bars, and.. Oh, alright.. I guess I can stop there!

So, there you have it. Now I pass this award on to the following...

As I conclude my post for the day, I want to remind my friends and followers that tomorrow, Wednesday, is the last day to vote for your favorite pet, in the Pet Costume Contest over at Doris' blog, Crocheting In Georgia. When asked, "Ubu, if you had one wish, what would that wish be for?" Well, my heart just swells with pride, as my little Ubu replies, "Why, of course, I wish for world peace"!.. Isn't that just wonderful?!

Oh, alright.. Just kidding!.. But if you haven't voted yet, please DO click on our picture of Ubu, on my right side bar. You'll be brought directly to the voting poll, where I hope you'll vote for Ubu, our little Frankenpooch, Contestant #10!! Winners will be announced on the 29th through the 31st, and I hear there's going to be a new Trick Or Treat Giveaway too!! So don't miss out! Head on over!

I want to thank Gracie and Sally for the awards they have shared with me! In a time that has been so busy, pretty much all work and no play, and when I post so little that I'm afraid you all will forget about me, you, and all my blogging friends let me know otherwise! Thank you so much!

Holiday Spirit or Horror Show?

Ask me how I'm doing today!.. Go ahead.. Don't be afraid.. Just ask me!

Do I post the following images in the fun and spooky spirit of the holiday?.. Or more likely, is this the way I'm really FEELING right now?!!!

As I pack box after box throughout the house, I can't help but feel like things look worse and worse. I am surrounded. I try to make my way through, but I trip and I stumble! Oh my gosh, it's getting dark in here, but I can't find the lamp!!

Now I might be wrong. I'm trying to remain confident. I've always been a firm believer in taking things one day at a time.. And I convince myself that I really AM making a dent! I really AM making progress! Why I MIGHT even be more ahead of the game than I THINK I am! Dear Son readily helps with anything and everything I ask. He even offers help WITHOUT being asked! When Dear Daughter comes here, to help when she can, she says she can see all the work I've been doing! But there are so many boxes! They're piled sky high, but STILL I need MORE! My God, I need MORE boxes!!

There's a CRASH!.. What was that? I turn to look, but I see nothing!.. Nothing but boxes! Left. Right. My heart races!.. I can't make my way through! Dear Son? Anybody?.. Where are you? Did you hear that? What was it?!

Oh.. (sigh).. It was just the cat, knocking down one of my silk flower arrangements! Bad little kitty! Now you shall have no pie! NEVERMORE!!

My gosh, I have to get a grip here! What happened to whistle while you work?

You know?? When after a year from now, if I should question if the place I'm in is not good enough for some reason.. and I actually seem to be consciously contemplating moving AGAIN, by CHOICE, might I ask even one of my good friends and neighbors here in Blogland, to just snap their fingers.. For the love of everything holy!.. Wake and shake me up just a little.. and remind me of the HORROR that I'm going through right NOW?!!

Thank you so much for hearing me vent just a bit! Wish me luck. I'm going to need it, to be ready to move by the 31st!

And please.. Don't be afraid to stop back tomorrow... If you dare!

Some Mouse, On The House!

Good Morning! I'm so glad you could stop by to visit me on this Magical Disney Sunday! Each week Heidi, from Fairy Footprints In The Sand, hosts this event, in the hopes to share some fun and magic to all who participate and/or visit! If you think this looks like something you'd like to join in on, then by all means, hop on board! Share your Disney collectibles, photos, or favorite memories.. or how about a recipe?!!

I hope you brought your appetite, because I have some Mickey Mouse pancakes fresh off the griddle! I thought a pumpkin pancake recipe would be fun to try for the season, so I tried the one I found from HERE! Another recipe that I'd still like to try is THIS ONE! I still have quite a few apples around from apple picking, but they ARE going fast!

Here is some Disney silverware that I used as a kid, then my kids used when they were younger!

Now, how about some Disney music in the background.. I've got some old record albums that are still great fun to listen to! Would that be nice?

I hope you enjoyed breakfast at my house today! Hope you're enjoying a wonderful weekend, and please do stop by again soon!

Who's Your Favorite Princess?

What's that you say?.. You wish it was Magical Disney Sunday again? Well, then.. Now where's that wand? I was sure I had it a minute ago!.. Oh, here it is!

Bippity Boppity Boo! Your wish is granted! It's Heidi's 2nd Magical Disney Sunday! Be sure to visit her at Fairy Footprints In The Sand, to see what she and a list of others have to share today! If you enjoy the magic of Disney, then don't be shy! Share your Disney treasures and memories, maybe even photos of Disney vacations! Walt Disney, himself, said "If you can dream it, you can DO it!"

Today, as I begin packing pictures, knick-knacks, and various collections into boxes, I wanted to share the two Cinderella dolls I have. The first Cinderella comes with her own 1st edition "Little Little Golden Book"!

This second doll is Disney's 50th Anniversary Edition of Cinderella! To me, this doll is stunning in her ice blue brocade and satin gown!

Now of course, when the Platinum Edition of Cinderella came out on DVD, I couldn't wait to pick up a copy for myself as soon as I could!

I think most girls, young and old, have a favorite princess, out of all the Disney princesses! Dear Daughter says hers is Belle, from Beauty and The Beast. As for me, I love them all, but my favorite is Cinderella!

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful weekend, and for all your dreams to come true!
